144 fiber color code chart

Every fiber in a 144-count loose tube cable, 12 buffer tubes of 12 fibers, with its tube and fiber color under TIA-598. Find the fiber number in the grid: its row is the tube and its column is the fiber color. Use your browser's print button for a paper copy.

Look up a single fiber number instead, or switch the fibers-per-tube setting there for 6- or 24-fiber tubes.

Reading the 144 chart

A 144-count loose tube cable has twelve tubes, one of each color, in the same order as the fibers. That makes the arithmetic easy: tube number × 12 is the last fiber in that tube. The orange tube ends at 24, the slate tube at 60, the black tube at 96 and the aqua tube at 144.

Quick checks on the job

  • Fibers 1 to 12 are in the blue tube, 13 to 24 in orange, 25 to 36 in green.
  • Fiber 73 is the first fiber in tube 7, red: blue in red.
  • Fiber 100 is in tube 9, yellow, position 4: brown in yellow.
  • Fiber 144 is aqua in aqua.

Smaller cables follow the same pattern: a 48-count with 12 per tube is just the first four rows, a 72-count the first six, and a 96-count the first eight.

This chart assumes 12 fibers per tube and no fillers, which is the most common construction for a 144-count cable but not the only one. Confirm against the manufacturer's construction sheet for the cable on your reel.
